Current mood: giddy

Since I'm signing the papers anyway...
Thought I'd let the cat out of the bag. It's hungry. :D

The paperwork I'm signing is my contract to sell minis on Paizo.com. Paizo minis. Tied in with Paizo products.

I REPEAT: Paizo has given me the go-ahead to make mini packs available for sale on their website.

We (Ben and I) hope to have the first set out as soon after Pathfinder #19--Legacy of Fire Chapter 1: Howl of the Carrion King comes out. We'll have to make a complete list of the monsters and NPCs, and then I'll ink them, Ben will edit, color, and compile them into a PDF, and I'll assemble a set for the cover image and post it on the web site. I'm hoping no longer than 2 weeks after it hits your mailbox.

We're gonna stick to Pathfinder volumes for now, unless it becomes apparent that the profits will allow us to quit our day jobs and do this full-time. Then, who knows? :D

Anyway, I wanted to take the time out to thank everyone who made this possible. I know, I thank y'all a lot, but that's because you're deserving of thanks. Extra-special thanks go to Ben (obviously); the immortal [info]seankreynolds  for getting me to think of this as a potential business; [info]lilith_darkmoon , for getting me onto DA and generous provisions of E-cookies; Ben Wenham (zombieneighbours on the boards) for being the first person to pay for my art with real, solid money; Hugo, for being my biggest cheerleader and slave-master; [info]wesschneider , for giving me the chance to show the Paizo guys my stuff; Lastknightleft on the boards, for creating this thread and generally keeping the energy and momentum alive; lemuriapress, for looking over my proposal without laughing, and putting the ball into all the right courts; and the whole Paizo gang in general for making this thing real.

It's hard to believe, but it's fucking real.

Thank you all so much, and I hope your New Years turns out to be as good as mine's looking!

Thanks, man!

I'll let you know if we need anything from your end. Honestly, we're just working out the basics right now. We've got the rest of January and through February until the AP comes out to get this stuff figured out, so I'll be doing a lot of work getting the business end set up.

I'm a bit of a pie-in-the-sky dreamer type, but thankfully Ben's more grounded in reality and can point out things that are unfeasable. Hopefully, that'll make this a solid partnership and we won't end up trying to kill each other in six months. We're kinda like Demogorgon right now- if either of us dies, the whole thing dies. So we've got that going for us at least. :P

Thanks again for all the help, and if I don't wind up lost in Seattle before then, I hope to see you in person at PaizoCon! I owe you a drink. :D

Thanks! It's looking like it may be a lucrative gig, but we'll see when the sales numbers come through.

I can't believe I'm gonna get paid to do this. :D

You'd be surprised, sometimes the coolest thing is turning something you love to do into money. :D

Yeah, I'm hoping it stays cool; most of the time, I come to loathe anything I've gotta do for money, but right now, I'm loving the exciting opportunity. Hope that delicious exciting flavor stays! :D

Looking forward to seeing the first set of minis! :)

I'm looking forward to providing them! :D

That's awesome news. It wasn't that long ago I was begging Paizo to take more of my money by putting out counters for the APs, and I really liked the blog post on Paizo's site showing the "prototype" minis, before they were technically prototypes I guess.

Yeah, those were the early days, back when it was all strange meetings I only heard about vaguely through Wes. It was a pretty damn intense waiting session, I'll tell you. :P

There might be some new prototype images up on my DeviantART site sometime, since Ben and I are working on making double-sided minis. I'll put a link up on my LiveJournal when/if this happens.

Are you planning on trying to set up pages for double-sided printing, so the front side and the back side line up when you print them out? That may be really hard, given that every individual printer is going to have some quirks, and getting those outlines to line up will be a pain. If you want double-sided minis, might be better to put them as adjacent mirror images on the same side of the paper, then the user just prints, cuts, folds, and glues to get a back-to-back mini.

Yeah, months ago, when people told us how much the liked the One Monk minis, Ben mentioned to me that double-sided could prove tricky to do successfully. I agreed soon enough, after he beat me half to death with his logic-pole. But i can see a few advantages to the folding style, not the least of which being that the ones I use at home are all double-thick (cardstock spray-mounted on more cardstock) to improve durability. So now, everyone will get double-thick minis! :D

But thanks for mentioning it, sir. If I didn't have Ben around, I'd probably have tried for the double-sided printing and spent all my time fielding "this doesn't print right!" questions on the message boards. And that ain't fun.

Currently, the practical question I'm working on is whether to do little tabs on the bottoms of the minis and have them folded and glued onto the base, or some weird "base has tabs that fold up" thing that One Monk does, which I dislike.

That, and how to make a cover. But that's my shameful burden to carry. :P

Oh, and how to cover my legal bases in regards to stuff like on the bottom of the "Credits" page of most modules: i.e., am I gonna need to put a big pile of copyright info and "any similarities to any persons, living or dead, is purely coincidential" stuff in there? Because if there's one thing Ben and I know less about than business, it's law.

{That, and how to make a cover.}

See, I'd consider that part of the fun. :)

{am I gonna need to put a big pile of copyright info}

As far as your own copyrights are concerned, all you really need is "©2009 (your name)"
Paizo will tell you what legal info they want on it. :)
As far as the "any similarity to any persons" goes, that's a Hollywood thing, I don't recall ever seeing it on an RPG.

Oh, I've gotten some thoughts on the covers. And with Photoshop, a basic cover mockup should be somewhat easy to do.

I hope. :P

Cool, that sounds good. I'll send an e-mail off to Jeff Alvarez about it.

That "any similarities" thing was a feeble attempt at humor. I knew it had failed the minute I typed it out, but I just couldn't bring myself to destroy it, so I fobbed it off on the Internet, where its existence would raise few eyebrows. :)

{That "any similarities" thing was a feeble attempt at humor.}

Oh, see, I interpreted it as, "he's an artist, they're all dumb as rocks, better explain the situation so he doesn't go all emo and start cutting himself because he's so caught up in the emotion of the art." So ... funny, in a different way. ;)

(j/k man!)
